T.A.C.E. is a full-length chamber work featuring through-composed music, vocalization, poetry and improvisation. It was commissioned by The Sound Ensemble at the end of 2019 and has been in process ever since.
The music itself is an experiential manifestation of what it means to create everywhere, uninhibited, through joyful expression free from expectations.
Written by Kelsey Mines with lyricist Em Nitz-Ritter, “To Actually Create Everywhere” explores the gendered experiences of making art through music and spoken word. The piece, composed for instruments historically considered "just for men," is performed by women and trans people - a testament to the need for, and value of, creative spaces that do not center cis men, especially in male-dominated professions. This project plays with gender nonconformity, joy, and collaboration.
